Domus is one of Gio Ponti’s many flatware patterns produced in partnership with Krupp, a manufacturer of cutlery and other metal goods. Ponti made significant changes to the traditional form of flatware in many of his designs; however, Domus is the most sculptural and intricate. The pointed implements, creased bowls, and handles with diamond-shaped piercings make this design distinctive. Domus demonstrates Ponti’s longstanding fascination with geometric patterns, and in particular, the diamond or lozenge shape.
